Christopher Simmons - Tenor

 

Described by Opera Canada magazine as “an exciting tenor with consummate acting abilities”, American lyric tenor Christopher Simmons has quickly won over Canadian audiences with a refined voice and winning stage presence.

One of the most sought-after tenors in British Columbia, his recent engagements include Messiah with the Vancouver Symphony and Vancouver Bach Choir, Bach’s Mattäus Passion (Evangelist) with the Abbotsford Symphony and Mozart’s Requiem with the West Coast Symphony. In 2006 he made successful debuts with Burnaby Lyric Opera (The Merry Widow - St. Brioche), Opera Appassionata (La Finta Giardiniera - Count Belfiore), and The Opera Project (Cosi fan Tutte - Ferrando).

He has been engaged by a wide variety of other arts organizations including; Gateway Theatre, the Dawson Creek Symphony, the the Willan Choir, the Pacific Singers, and the Vancouver Handel Society.

Mr. Simmons moved to Vancouver from Portland Oregon where he performed with many excellent organizations including; the Portland Opera, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Trinity Consort, Portland Symphonic Choir, and the Linfield Chamber Orchestra.

He has benefited from masterclasses and coachings with some of North America’s finest instructors, including Richard Miller (Oberlin Conservatory), Stuart Hamilton (Canadian Opera Company), and renowned Canadian singers Benjamin Butterfield, and Suzie LeBlanc.

Christopher's upcoming engagements include Sylvio in Bizet's Le Docteur Miracle for Opera Appassionata, the Evangelist in Bach's Johannes Passion with Abbotsford Symphony, Haydn and Beethoven Masses with the Vancouver Handel Society, Bach's Trauerode for Vancouver Voices, and a Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni with the Vancouver Academy of Music.
