Soprano Sheila Christie graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2002 with her Master of Music in Opera Performance. While at UBC, she performed in no less than six operas and several concerts, culminating in her thesis role as Hanna Glawari in Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow. Since graduation, Sheila has enjoyed being a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus. In October 2003, she traveled to Saskatchewan to tour Opera Night in Canada, an educational show that she helped develop. In the fall of 2004, Sheila performed in several of Vancouver Opera's community events to promote Puccini's Madama Butterfly including Opera Experience in the Schools, Opera Speaks, and the Opera Cafe. The fall of 2005 marked the exciting start of The Scrumptious Sirens, a four-part recital series organized by Sheila and fellow soprano Raphael Wagner. Recently, Sheila competed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions where she received an Encouragement Award for her performance. When Sheila is not involved in major projects, she likes to keep herself busy teaching voice lessons and performing in various concerts in her community.
