David Boothroyd

David Boothroyd has coached more than eighty titles with hundreds of artists during the past 30 years. His extensive production credits range from Handel and Mozart through to Verdi and Strauss, and include several world premières. He has coached or conducted productions in St. Louis, Toronto, Guelph, Banff and Vancouver, and performed with many singers and instrumentalists across Canada and in England, the Netherlands and Germany. David has accompanied soprano Nancy Argenta and bass-baritone Ingemar Korjus in live-to-air CBC national broadcasts. As an opera coach, he works regularly with world renowned artists like mezzo-soprano Judith Forst and soprano Kathleen Brett, helping them to prepare roles for productions throughout Europe and across North America. David has also worked in musical theatre, where his numerous credits encompass such diverse composers as Franz Lehar, Kurt Weill, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Originally from Nova Scotia, David studied music at Mount Allison University and the University of Western Ontario. He worked for eight seasons with the winter Music Theatre Studio Ensemble at the Banff School of Fine Arts, and was an instructor in the Opera Program at the Courtenay Youth Music Centre on Vancouver Island for six summers. From 1993 to 1997, David performed for more than 200,000 children throughout British Columbia with the Vancouver Opera Touring Ensemble. He currently works with the young singers of the Opera Ensemble at UBC, where he is a faculty member. |
