The Barber of Seville (Barbiere di Siviglia)

Composed by Gioacchino Antonio Rossini

Premiered February 20, 1816

The heroine, Rosina, is sought after by two men. One is her guardian, Dr. Bartolo, the other, Count Almaviva. The Count disguises himself as a poor student "Lindoro" and goes to serenade Rosina. While there, he encounters Figaro, and the two of them overhear Dr. Bartolo's plans to marry Rosina himself. Figaro and the Count concoct a plan that the Count will disguise himself as a soldier, thereby rightfully gaining access to Dr. Bartolo's house and, of inevitably, to Rosina. Dr. Bartolo eventually recognizes the Count and chases him out of the house. The Count and Figaro hatch a plan to free Rosina and, in the end, Rosina and the Count are reunited.
